Interview from http://www.michele-andree-unblugged.com/

RODRIGO JAVIER GOZALBEZ, young guitar virtuoso from Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz, Argentina.  Rodo as his friends call him, began playing guitar at the tender age of 12.  His first band came from his neighbourhood and his school.  He was especially drawn to rock, then later to blues, fusion, jazz. Whatever he plays, the sound just seems to flow from his instrument without effort.  This young man is making a name for himself.  He is indeed an extremely talented musician.
Rodrigo, thank you for accepting to do this article with me.  You have been most generous and I am grateful.  Your talent amazes me and I am very proud to introduce you to all the readers who will most likely agree.

No. 1) What is music to and for you?
Music to me is the clearest reflection of all the feelings that make up the personality of man, joy and love, hate and tragedy.   A sanctuary where all the essential moments in life converge. Actually, it is so important that if anybody would ask me what would you do without it? I wouldn’t have any answers… that’s why I think that it’s indispensable, undoubtedly vital for this world.

No. 2)What inspires you?
Everything around me inspires me. People usually lives thousand of situations that in some way influence their world, the deeper their realities are,  the greater the degree of seduction that captures them and there begins the creative process and interpretation of reality which can be very different from what one should experience objectively at that particular moment.
Hence the diversity of the “creative machine ” of each individual . It is clear that I am also influenced by the creations of master artists, in my particular case as a guitar player, other colleagues often conquer me with their genius. In that permanent siege there are new things to lubricate that machine that I was talking about.

No. 3) When you are playing, creating, where does it take you?  I mean where does your mind (spirit) travel?

Well, everything is movement.  In these moments, when I’m playing, building something or just listening, the intensity of sensations I experience can be very diverse, at times so important that I am able to escape to other places, you can see other colours, feel other things, that are most difficult to explain with words and that’s why I think that enriches what you do  that much when that happens. It’s really fun sometimes cause it happens in an unexpected way, even when you are waiting for something or implicitly claim something in return. Sometimes it doesn’t happen and I keep waiting and don’t conform with what I feel, it also annoys me a bit. Ha, Ha.  But it also raises the need to keep searching and searching.

No. 4) Do you think music, visual art and health are related and if so, how do you see that?
Yes, I believe that these manifestations of man have a direct bearing on health and mood, the artist reflects feelings in his work, in all areas and reveals himself, therefore, his personal integrity and his present situation are going to establish the consequences of his creations. The degree or kind of culture he creates can motivate other people to find explanations at a given moment in their life that requires conclusion.

No. 5) When you are playing, creating, how do you feel?
Freedom! Is the first thing you feel, then it begins to transform into other feelings,  even very different. I think that freedom itself is what allows your mind to be open and ready to flow through different places, in different scenes that somehow form what is intended to do or what’s already happening.

No. 6) Do you identify with your music and if so, on what level?
Yes, I’m discovering little by little new facets that I couldn’t see before and that satisfies me but I can’t ignore that I’m just starting specially in composition, one of the most important topics for a musician, like improvisation, are fundamental pillars, that should be nourished and regenerated forever.  I think an artist must always have a lot of pride in what he does, or it would end up meaningless and he wouldn’t recognize himself.  It  is also good to control the excesses of ego that often  appear at certain times and more at some particular styles. Sooner or later the sacrifice and work manifest themselves in the “touch” of the artist, sometimes very much in demand and anxiety is present  as result of the self-imposed demands that are experienced in the creative search.

No. 7) When and under what circumstances do you feel you do your best work?
Well, that depends on what I’m doing, usually with a little patience and calm good results can be achieved, but sometimes in situations under pressure  your work, or your production can be maximized.  I’m not speaking about anything strange, it’s just that there are things that are always in a latent state,  but when necessary generate works, or fix things already made. I’m saying this from a “psychic” point of view, cause if we are going to talk about  the “material” point of view, we all would like to have a professionalrecording studio in our own houses and a complete set of guitars and equipment at our disposal all the time!
Jajaja.

No.8 )  Does playing help you connect with your higher self, whatever that is for you?
Yes, as I said at the beginning of the interview “everything is movement”, according to how this movement has manifested itself , you can really go far, even experience wishes that may come true then do a cycle and  returns and regenerates forever and this is undoubtedly very interesting.

No.9 ) Some people say the school systems kill creativity, how do you feel about that?
No, I think that education in anything that man can do is always necessary.  The more you know, the bigger the speculation for to the artist to work.  It is clear that some people are more technical and others more relaxed.  I know many musicians who are self-taught and are phenomenal artists!  But that doesn’t mean all I said before is to be denied, that would be criminal!
Seria criminal!

No. 10)  How do you feel about improvisation in music?
Improvisation is everything! Carlos Santana said: “Rock is a swimming pool, jazz is a whole ocean”. I think that’s the best way to summarize what improvisation means! Jeje. It is essential for the musician!
